We’re seeking a transformational leader who will be responsible for supporting the nurse manager in administrative duties of the unit, especially during off-shifts.

The Assistant Nurse Manager will provide leadership by collaborating with members of the healthcare team to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Participates in organizational and unit-based quality improvement activities, and provides input on standards of care. Must provide patient care on an as-needed basis and maintain clinical competencies with the potential for weekly patient care shift assignments.

Position type: Full-time

• At least a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required OR must obtain a BSN degree within 3 years of hiring date. Master's degree preferred.
• At least two years’ experience as a registered nurse; 3-5 years preferred.
• License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.
• A diploma or certification course in administration recommended.
• Participation in professional organizations recommended.

1. Supervises care provided by maintaining high visibility to patients/families and staff in the clinical area(s).
2. Shares accountability with manager for achievement of unit/department/organizational goals, including patient experience, team member engagement and continuous process improvement.
3. Staff management to include recruitment, retention, coaching, training, evaluation and development, as well as preparation and delegation of work schedules and workflow.
4. Under supervision from manager, participates in basic human resource functions.
5. Provides managerial support as required. Develops, implements and participates in quality improvement processes activities. Works with members of the healthcare team in activities designed to improve patient care outcomes.
6. Provides leadership and serves as a resource in the provision of patient care and unit activities. Assists staff in development of problem-solving and decision-making skills.
7. Maintains all records pertaining to the staff competency and quality audits and other related records.
8. Serves as a professional role model, coach and resource for employees. Participates actively in Nursing and/or hospital committees and work groups, and assists in the development and implementation of the unit’s shared governance model.
9. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Beginning January 1, 2017, applicable certification is required for those who are hired into this role. Those who are hired without certification will be required to obtain applicable certification within two and a half years of the date of hire or transfer into the position.
