Essential qualities needed for this position are organization, excellent communication skills, able to work independently and as a team, critical thinking skills, an ability to analyze large amounts of data, and strong leadership skills.

Responsible for the overall management of the stroke program ensuring on-going quality of care delivered to the stroke patient from admission through patient disposition. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: planning, organizing, and evaluation of patient care within the program as well as compliance with regulatory bodies and national guidelines for stroke management. Executes PI initiatives in order to promote optimal stroke care. Collaborates with the Quality Department for data abstraction/entry. Promotes a positive image of the stroke center and hospital to patients, physicians, EMS, in-hospital staff, and the community. Monitors and, in the absence of a Stroke Nurse, adheres to following stroke rounding procedures on multiple units. Participates in appropriate hospital committees.

Provides assistance to staff conducting stroke alert overseeing quality measures. Monitors all patient care documentation to include ED and inpatient documentation (including nurse’s notes, order sets or pathway documentation, physician notes, EHR record, ED triage sheet, Registration form, vital signs graphical record). Ensures an active community education program exists. Responsible for compliance with regulatory agency and national standards for stroke care.

Position type: Full-time

Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN). Licensed as a professional registered nurse in the State of California. Current BLS; ACLS required. Two to three (3) years nursing experience in clinical specialty in Stroke/Neuroscience. Strong knowledge and comprehension of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Preferred: MSN preferred. Project management experience strongly preferred. Experience in clinical quality, education, performance improvement highly desirable. Professional certification in specialty area such as CNRN, CCRN, NIH, NIH, CCRN, CCNS or related Neuro advanced studies preferred.
